Avon, CO – The Avon Town Council held a regular meeting on November 15th. Topics included the following:
- Council reviewed a $75,000 cash funding request for the 2017 CoverRock Festival. “CoverRock – British Invasion”, will return to the Avon Performance Pavilion on June 24 -25, 2017. Council approved an up-front cash award of $45,150 to True Local Events, LLC, producer of the event. The remaining balance was put on hold in order for the Town to assess if it would be feasible and cost effective for the Town to invest in "infrastructure" equipment, such as fencing, electric and waste, in order to offset costs for the producer and the producers of future events. If the Town finds that it would not be cost effective to make any investments to cover the costs associated, the producer will receive the balance of $29,850.
- Council reviewed and provided direction on a proposal by Walking Mountains Science Center for the Town to grant a conservation easement on approximately 95 acres of Town-owned open space. The easement is one element of a partnership with Eagle County’s Open Space Program to leverage a one million dollar contribution from the County for the purchase of a 5.8 acre open space acquisition on Buck Creek Road, by Walking Mountains Science Center. Action on the proposed conservation easement is expected to take place at the December 13th regular meeting.
- Town staff, and consultants to the Town, presented options for adding deed restricted employee housing units and/or a residential mix with employee and free market units to the New Town Hall. Expansion options and associated costs, as well as parking requirements and financing options were among the components discussed in the work session. Council, based upon a variety of concerns about an expansion, provided direction to finish the building to serve as only a Town Hall.
- Council elected to hold a Special Council meeting on Monday, December 5th, in order to commence a public hearing for a major development plan for the Avon Hotel, proposed on Lot B. The Planning and Zoning Commission, on November 14th, recommended approval, with additional minor design changes. Action on the development plan will be taken at the December 13th regular meeting.
