Avon Town Council Members Sworn-In, Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem Positions Appointed

Swearing-In Ceremony

Avon, CO – On November 17, 2016, an official Swearing-In Ceremony was held for the newly elected members of the Avon Town Council, including Jennie Fancher, Amy Phillips and Jake Wolf. Fancher, Phillips and Wolf stood before the community and repeated the oath read by Debbie Hoppe, Town Clerk, promising to faithfully carry out the responsibilities of the office and to honor the Constitution of the United States and the laws of the State of Colorado and the Town of Avon.
Fancher and Wolf were re-elected to the Council after having served since 2012. Phillips is the newest addition to the Council, but has experience serving the community of Avon, as she sat on the Council from 2004 to 2012.
Following the Swearing-In Ceremony was the appointment of the mayor and mayor pro-tem positions. The Avon Home Rule Charter requires the positions to be elected amongst the elected Council members by the concurring vote of not less than four Council members at its first organizational meeting held after final certification of the election results. According to the Charter, the mayor presides at Council meetings and is recognized as the head of the Town government for all ceremonial, dignitary and legal purposes. In the absence or of the mayor, the mayor pro-tem presides at Council meetings and takes over the powers and duties of the mayor.
Fancher was re-appointed Mayor of Avon and has served as mayor since November 2014. “I appreciate the residents of Avon for voting me to the Town Council and I also appreciate my fellow Council members for deciding to elect me mayor,” Fancher said. ”It’s a vote of confidence and I am excited about the direction the Town is moving in,” Fancher said.
Smith Hymes was appointed Mayor Pro Tem. She has been on the Council since November 2014 and currently serves as the Town’s primary representative on the Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority Board of Directors. On being elected to serve as Mayor Pro Tem, she said, “I am excited about being able to serve the residents and community in this way. I am pleased with the way the Town is progressing and I envision many excellent results into the future.”
