Beaver Creek Boulevard Redesign and Streetscape Plan Headed to Town Council on February 28th

Avon, CO – The proposed Beaver Creek Boulevard Redesign and Streetscape Plan will be presented at the February 28th Town Council meeting. The discussion is expected to begin at 5:15 p.m., in Council Chambers. The plan is viewable at, and in the Recreation Center, Library, or Town Hall. The Town is urging those with an interest in the project to attend an open house on February 22nd at 12:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. to learn more about the project, or attend the Council meeting.     

The proposed plan has been modified based upon feedback received during the 2016 summer “road test” layout, and additional public meetings last fall. Changes from the test include wider sidewalks on both sides of the road, parallel parking spaces, and the addition of left turn lanes out of the Avon Road roundabout into Christie Lodge and the Avon Center/Alpine Bank parking lots. A continuous bike lane is now located between the travel lanes and parking spaces, as opposed to the separated cycle track lanes tried during the test.        

In 2017, the construction budget was adopted at an estimate of $2.5M. The changes, which are responsive to public input, have increased the construction cost, and based upon the most recent pricing to $2.8 M, including a 30% contingency. It is the widening of sidewalks on both sides of the travel lanes, and resultant need to replace the majority of existing abutting curb, gutter, and sidewalks, which account for the majority of the estimated increase. It should be noted, that final cost for the project, if approved, will not be known until the project is bid.

At the February 28th Council meeting, the project team, including Design Workshop, Avon’s consultant, and Town staff will present the design changes and the final proposed plan. Further detail regarding cost estimates will be presented, along with options for Council consideration.  Staff will be recommending completion of construction documents, bidding of the project, and based upon bids, full construction in 2017 or phasing of the project into 2018.     

Written comments to the Town Council on the project should be emailed to, by not later than February 27th, 5:00 p.m.
