Report from the November 14th Avon Town Council Meeting

Avon, CO – The Avon Town Council held a regular meeting on November 14th. Highlights of the meeting include the following:

  • The Town’s final revised operating budgets for 2017 and the proposed 2018 operating budgets were presented by Town staff and approved by Town Council. Also approved were the final revised Capital Projects Fund budget for 2017, the proposed 2018 Capital Projects Fund budget, and the long-range capital program. • Council approved the first reading of Ordinance 17-18, thereby approving a Rezoning Application adding Nottingham Road properties to the Short-Term Overlay Zone District. Council directed the Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) to look at short term rentals across the Town, not just across the existing overlay district. PZC will also examine Accessory Dwelling Units and the definition of ‘family.’ A second reading of Ordinance 17-18 is scheduled for December 12, 2017.
  • Council reviewed a Schematic Site Plan and Opinion of Probable Costs to evaluate relocating the Hahnewald Barn to Tract G. Staff selected Tomecek Studio Architecture as the lead for the design and charrette process, which was open to the public and held on October 11, 2017. The resultant schematic plan includes placement of the barn in the current location of Town Hall, retention of the Parks Garage and Cabin for ancillary and support structures to the Pavilion, an outdoor, mechanically chilled ice rink between the barn and Lake Street, which could have ice for an extended season, and an outdoor event space between the barn and the parking areas. Based upon the schematic drawings and local knowledge of construction costs, the estimated cost of the project is $7,769,405.46. Council directed PZC to move forward with their planning for Town Owned Properties. Contractors and architects will investigate the schematics of other barn locations, and staff will continue to research the cost of moving or storing the barn short-term.

All Town Council meetings can be streamed live or viewed online in the days following the meeting at The Town Council’s next meeting is December 12th at 5:00 p.m. Agendas and packet materials can be found at For more information on the November 14th meeting or future meetings, please contact Preston Neill, Deputy Town Manager at 970-748-4404 or
