Avon Development Code Forwarded to the Town Council
On July 6, the Avon Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on the proposed new Avon Development Code and recommended conditional approval of the Code to the Town Council. The Council is scheduled to review the proposed new Development Code at its regular meeting on July 27, 2010.
In 2008, the Town retained the services of Clarion & Associates to help rewrite the Town’s zoning code and create a unified development code that includes the town’s subdivision regulations. The new easier to understand and use Development Code will replace the Town’s existing zoning and subdivision regulations which were initially adopted more than 30 year ago. The new Code will address community needs, simplify the land use process, and provide for clear and predictable development outcomes.
The new Code was recommended by the 2006 Avon Comprehensive Plan and other Town policy documents, as a means of achieving the Town’s goals for a vibrant, walkable town-core and more sustainable development practices.
Since the first draft of the Development Code was introduced on May 28, 2010, the Avon Planning & Zoning Commission and Town Council have held more than ten public meetings to discuss the changes and receive comments from the community. The Town Council will continue this public review of the document beginning with a public hearing on July 27, 2010.
