Town Council Adopts Emergency Ordinance on Pending Development Plans

Avon, CO—Avon Town Council approved an emergency ordinance allowing development applications to be processed while the proposed Development Code is under review. This emergency ordinance repeals sections of the municipal code that temporarily suspend building permits while the land use regulations are being revised.

After receiving public input, the Council set a deadline of September 30th for developers to submit applications for review under the current rules. Development plans submitted after the Code’s approval will fall under the new Development Code.

The council will continue the public hearing process on the Development Code at their next meeting to be held on August 10th.

The proposed Development Code was recommended by the 2006 Avon Comprehensive Plan and is intended to replace the Town’s existing 30 year old zoning and subdivision regulations. The new Code simplifies the land use process, provides for clear and predictable development outcomes, and is a means of achieving the Town’s goals for a vibrant, walkable town-core and more sustainable development practices.

For more information on the proposed Development Code please visit the town’s website at: www.avon.org/LandUseCode. Comments or questions can also be submitted to NewCode@avon.org.
