Xcel Energy: June 20 Weekly Construction Update

6/20/2011
Construction began on Monday, May 16, and weekly construction schedules updates are posted on Mondays. Please note that inclement weather may impact the upcoming project schedule. Work on U.S. Highway 6 occurs in the outside, west-bound lane.

From Minturn
We have started pulling new pipe through the bore under the Eagle River to our Meadow Mountain meter station near Minturn. After that work is complete, we will start installing new main natural gas line from the meter station along Highway 6.

We anticipate that restricted two-lane traffic from the intersection of U.S. Highway 6 and County Road 14 westward to the U.S. Forest Service parking lot will continue for the next two weeks.

From Edwards
During the past week we completed the first 2,500 feet of work heading eastward on U.S. Highway 6 from Miller Ranch Road. This section has been permanently paved.

Work continues to head eastward and asphalt is removed in advance of new natural gas pipeline being installed. After 2,500 feet of work is completed, the lane of Highway 6 where construction occurred will be permanently paved.

Highway 6 and River Bend Drive
Last week we started boring work under the golf cart path at Highway 6 and River Bend Road. Currently only one lane of traffic in each direction is open in this area, and we anticipate this work will continue through June.

Closure of Highway 6 at I-70 Exit 171
Both lanes of west-bound Highway 6 remain closed from 100 feet west of I-70 Exit 171 to 100 feet east of Kayak Road for the removal of asphalt and the installation of new pipeline.

Local businesses are open and accessible, but other traffic is being re-routed onto west-bound I-70 at Exit 171 and routed back onto Highway 6 at Exit 169. The closure is expected to last through July.

Additional Updates

Bike Path
The bike path along Highway 6 remains open and accessible.

Staging Area
At our East Beaver Creek Road and Post Boulevard staging area, trucks will continue to intermittently enter and exit the roadway throughout the project. Please yield to construction signs and flaggers in this area.

Construction & Summer Events
We have posted a list of summer events using Highway 6. Construction will be suspended and the roadway safe for public travel in the areas where the special events will be held.

We will continue to email you weekly updates on the project’s construction progress. You always can find background information on the project, a timeline and a route map on our website. We also can be reached by email at info@xceledwards-minturnhpgaspipeline.com or through our hotline at 1-877-481-6380
