Avon, CO – The Avon Recreation Center has announced the launch of a community swim program, which began on September 6, 2016. The goal of the program is to ensure all children and young adults have the opportunity to learn to swim and the option to pursue swimming at a higher level. Offerings will range from Learn to Swim programs for young swimmers, including Parent and Tot classes, to a USA Swimming competitive travel team. The current session is still enrolling swimmers, and the winter session will begin November 1, 2016.
The Recreation Center is offering financial assistance to swimmers who qualify for free and reduced lunch through Eagle County School District. Providing financial aid will afford swim program participation for all socioeconomic levels, an important founding principle of the program. Additionally, the Recreation Center has partnered with Avon Elementary School to offer a Learn to Swim program as part of the physical education curriculum for students in grades 1, 3, and 5.
According to Recreation Director John Curutchet, “Our promise is to deliver a high quality swim program, which ensures all swimmers can achieve his or her highest level of proficiency, whether that is learning to swim, continuing as a recreational swimmer, or taking on the challenge of competitive swimming.”
The Town is currently seeking a full time Swim Program Supervisor to help coordinate recreational and competitive teams, in addition to the Learn to Swim program. All levels will feature highly qualified and motivated swim coaches.
