Community Heat Recovery Facility
New Era of Alternative Energy Production
The Avon Community Heat Recovery facility is the first-of-its-kind in Colorado, and is now operating and heating the pool water at the Avon Recreation Center. In January 2011, Avon Mayor Rich Carroll cut the ribbon to the Heat Recovery System ushering in a new era of alternative energy production and use for the Town of Avon - establishing the Town as a leader in sustainable energy.

This project was in collaboration with the Eagle River Water and Sanitation District, Camp, Dresser and McKee (CDM), and is partially funded with a $1.5 million grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs.  The project developed a waste heat recovery system which uses renewable energy sources and delivers heat to the Avon Recreation Center pool waters and to snowmelt sidewalks in the Town Center prior to discharging into the river. Benefits include improving aquatic temperatures for sensitive Brook and Cutthroat trout and lowering annual energy costs and carbon footprints for the Town.
