Recycling
Non-Recyclables
A lot of non-recyclables go into the trash can, but not all of them do! Many items can actually be diverted in other ways, such as composting and specialty recycling places. Click on each image below to see how to properly dispose of each type of non-recyclable material!
Composting
While composting may not be a current requirement in Avon, it is still a valuable way to reduce organic waste and promote sustainability by eliminating methane produced at the landfill. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas because it has a much greater heat-trapping capacity than carbon dioxide, and it contributes significantly to global warming and climate change. That’s why our recycling education campaign includes information on how to get started with composting, the benefits of composting, what materials can and cannot be composted, and how to create a successful compost routine at home and at your business. By composting, you can turn food scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich soil amendment that can be used to nourish your garden, lawn, or the ecosystem around us. Composting is an easy and effective way to reduce your environmental impact and contribute to a healthier planet. So even if composting is not currently required in our area, we encourage you to learn more about it through our education campaign and give it a try!
