Recreational Paths & Trails

Overview

The Town of Avon is a great place to recreate. Paved recreational paths around Nottingham Park, along the Eagle River, and on the northwest side of town offer the opportunity to walk, jog or bike while enjoying the town's mountain landscape.

Recreational Trails Master Plan Update

The Town of Avon’s 2016 Recreational Trails Master Plan (Trails Plan) has undergone review and update since the Trails Plan’s initial adoption in 2009. A key objective of the Trails Plan Update is to identify an integrated set of soft and hard surface trails throughout the entire Town, with connections to other trail networks in the Vail valley. The process has been guided by a steering committee representing hikers, mountain bike interests and motorized users. The public will be afforded several opportunities to participate in the review of the Trails Plan update process.

Eagle Valley Trail--Avon Section

The Eagle Valley Trail connects nine communities, from Glenwood Springs to Summit County. The 63-mile trail ties into regional transit routes and other trail systems in Eagle and adjoining counties, contributing to nearly 193 miles of paved trails for walkers and bikers in the intermountain region.

This non-motorized recreational path, traveling by the Eagle River, is a notable amenity for both residents and guests, serving all ages.

Funding comes from the Town of Avon, ECO Trails, Great Outdoors Colorado, and the Colorado Department of Transportation.

West Avon Preserve Trails

The West Avon Preserve is governed by the West Avon Preserve Management Plan, and is included in the Town’s Recreational Trails Master Plan, which outlines plans for improving the quality and quantity of trails. Trails of all levels of difficulty from easy to strenuous wind through this 468 acre parcel between Singletree and Wildridge. Hiking, biking and horseback riding are allowed uses while motorized vehicle use is not allowed on the West Avon Preserve trails.
