Avon Launches Electric Vehicle Chargers

Avon launches electric vehicle chargers at  Town Hall and Beaver Creek Place for public use

The Town of Avon has launched two new electric vehicle chargers located at Avon Town Hall and Beaver Creek Place for public use. “Avon is excited to take this first step to support electric vehicles for our visitors and Town fleet," said Mayor Sarah Smith-Hymes in a socially-distanced ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday. "Last year, we committed to 100% renewable electricity through Holy Cross Energy’s Renewable Energy Purchase Program. Clean power and electrification are an integrated approach to meet our Climate Action Goals."

These stations are the results of a collaboration between the Town of Avon, Holy Cross Energy, and the Colorado Energy Office (Charge Ahead grant program). Avon was recognized by the Colorado Energy Office as an integral part of the Electric Vehicle Fast-Charging Corridor on I-70.

The Beaver Creek Place Charger incorporates the DC Fast charging technology that reduces the charge time for an electric vehicle from several hours to less than an hour for a full charge. The total cost to install the DC Fast Charger was $80,000. The Colorado Energy Office awarded $35,000 for the charger and Holy Cross Energy provided the utility upgrade estimated at $30,000.

The level 2 chargers, located at Avon Town Hall, are complementary. Holy Cross Energy donated the level 2 chargers at a cost of $7,500. Access to the chargers is through the ChargePoint network.
