Avon Voters to Decide Short-Term Rental Tax Question to Support Community Housing in November
On August 24th, the Avon Town Council passed Resolution 21-20 to refer a two precent Short-Term Rental Tax Ballot Question to the Avon Electorate at the November 2, 2021 coordinated election.
The 2018 Town of Avon Community Housing Plan states a goal to secure additional local funds for housing and to seek opportunities for new funding sources. The proposed 2% Short-Term Rental Tax Rate increase would be a dedicated funding source for Community Housing. The Tax would be applicable to a short-term rental (less than 30 days) for any property that is not assessed as a commercial property. A two percent increase in Avon’s Short-Term Rental tax is estimated generate $1 million annually and would be used exclusively for Community Housing initiatives, including housing developments, housing programs and related activities.
