Ice skating season continues in Avon

Town of Avon plans to keep ice rink open as weather and staffing allow

The Nottingham Lake ice rink opened for the season on January 3, 2023 and has been enjoyed by locals and visitors!  Due to favorable weather conditions and the amenity’s popularity, the Town of Avon is planning to extend ice rink operations through Sunday, March 12.   Due to staffing challenges, the ice rink will finish the season with modified hours.  Beginning Monday, February 27, the ice rink will be open Monday through Friday, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays, 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.  The hours of operation are subject to change based on staffing, weather and ice quality.

The Recreation Department manages the ice rink and provides skate rentals and concessions out of the Metcalf Cabin in Harry A. Nottingham Park. Community members and visitors with their own skates can enjoy use of the Nottingham Lake ice rink for free but are required to sign a liability waiver.  Skaters can enjoy hot cocoa, s’mores, fire pits, music, seasonal lighting and beautiful views!  An Open skate section and recreational hockey area are available daily. “Box hockey” goals are provided on the west end of the ice rink, running north and south.

Updates on ice rink status, operations or programs can be found online at www.avon.org/2435/Ice-Skating, Avon Recreation’s social media pages or by calling the Recreation Center front desk at 970-748-4060.
