Avon Celebrates Success of Sustainability Fair and Town Clean Up

The Town of Avon proudly announces the results and success of the first annual Sustainability Fair and ninth annual Town Clean Up event held on May 24. With approximately 150 attendees, the community came together to celebrate the changing seasons and promote environmental stewardship in a festive atmosphere. The event featured various activities, including e-waste collection, clean-up efforts, and educational booths, all aimed at fostering environmental sustainability and stewardship in the Town of Avon.

One of the highlights of the event was the free e-waste collection, which provided a convenient and affordable way for Avon residents and businesses to dispose of their electronic waste. The Town sends a special thanks to Trinity Recycling, who donated a 20-yard dumpster for electronic waste. This generous donation allowed the Town to accept all kinds of e-waste without turning anyone away. The Avon Public Works team facilitated the free drop-off service. Overall, 6,611 pounds of e-waste were collected, preventing their improper disposal and reducing the potential environmental impact.

The clean-up efforts during the Town Clean Up portion of the event were also a resounding success. Volunteers took to the streets, parks, and public spaces, diligently removing litter and debris left behind after the winter season. Their dedication resulted in a significant clean-up effort, making Avon even more beautiful and enjoyable for residents and visitors alike. Beyond the event on May 24, the Avon Public Works team offered curbside collection for Avon residents all week long, resulting in 72,361 pounds of tree branches and yard waste collected between May 22 to 26.

In addition to the e-waste collection and clean-up activities, the Sustainability Fair provided a platform for local industry experts and organizations to educate attendees on sustainable practices. Over 15 booths were set up, offering valuable information on waste diversion, composting, recycling, waterwise landscaping, and energy conservation. Event attendees had the opportunity to learn from experts, participate in demonstrations, and gather resources to make their homes and businesses more sustainable.

The Town of Avon wishes to extend its gratitude to all the vendors, volunteers, and participants who contributed to the success of the inaugural Sustainability Fair and Town Clean Up. Through collaborative efforts and community engagement, Avon is taking significant steps toward a more sustainable future. The event's success underscores the town's commitment to environmental responsibility and sets a precedent for future initiatives.
